Yes. Automation of existing gates is a way of having electric gates without the need to replace your gates, removing the added cost this brings.

Do you offer repairs or maintenance?

Yes, we offer repairs or maintenance to all different types of gate or entry systems.  Our engineers are some of the most experienced out there!
Please review our available comprehensive maintenance contracts.

Why don't you offer your platinum level maintenance on my system, which Simply Electric Gates installed, and is only a year old?

Platinum level maintenance is our highest standard level of cover and incorporates servicing, parts and labour.  Most parts carry a two-year warranty. Therefore, you do not need a maintenance contracts to covers parts as you have already paid for this.

Can you help with an electric gate system that you did not install?

Yes, we can help you whether Portcullis Gates, Eagle Automation, Gate-a-Mation, or Wentworth Gates or a smaller company installed your system.  We have a wealth of experience with major suppliers such as Faac, Came, BFT and BPT too.

 Do you do solar gates?

We have learned during our decades of experience that solar operated gates can be unreliable in the UK; therefore we do not recommend them as a rule.

Do you have insurance?

Yes, we are insured up to £10,000,000 and our insurance policy can be sent on request.

You are advised to ensure that any competitor who provides a quote has an up to date policy in the name of the company providing you the quote

Do you have a waste removal licence?

Yes, we are authorised and registered with the Environment Agency to remove waste from your site - no CBDU180466.

Estimates & Pricing

Why is your estimate not the cheapest?

We make every effort to be competitive. Indeed, often our estimates will be proven to be more economical when everything is taken into account.  Moreover, there is inevitable administration that goes with being a professional company.  We are fully insured, trained and compliant with the many regulations involved. We aim for simple pricing to eliminate surprise charges upon completion of our work.

How much do electric gates cost?

Each gate installation is unique to each customer and we have never come across an identical system.  This makes giving a 'cost' for an installation difficult.  However, as a guide, £3,000 - £5,000 + VAT should be allowed for safe and reliable installation of automation onto an existing gate and anywhere between £7,000 + VAT - £50,000 + VAT for a new gate installation.  Many factors determine how much your installation will cost, including the type of gates required, the material you would like the gates made from and the commands you would like to control the gate, from a simple remote control all the way to CCTV and number plate recognition systems.

The best and most reliable way to get a true cost is to arrange a free of charge appointment for one of our technical surveyors to attend site and discuss your requirements.

Why do your estimates include VAT?

Trading Standards advise that, for clarity, estimates given to private customers should always be inclusive of VAT.  We are happy to comply.

Planning and Design of Electric Gates

Do I need planning permission?

Generally, if you are replacing gates already in existence with automatic gates, permission is not required.  You are, however, responsible for ensuring that all relevant local authority permissions are obtained.

Simply Electric gates can provide assistance and guidance with obtaining planning permission for electric gates.

I don't know what type of gate to have, can you help me?

Yes, Simply Electric Gates has a wealth of experience in the design of automated gates, and we can help design a gate system to meet your personal needs and desires.

Metal or Timber/ Wooden Gates?

Timber gates are attractive and often more suitable for a rural location.  As timber is a natural product, it can move, warp and crack in changing weather conditions and this can potentially effect the aesthetics and movement of the gate.

Metal gates are less expensive than timber gates and are easier to maintain, especially if they are finished in a powder coat.

Swing Gates or Sliding Gates?

Swing gates may be less appropriate if you have a rising driveway.  If there are no restrictions then swing gates should be fine.  Our experienced surveyor will advise when he visits you.

A Cantilever sliding gate is installed with no running ground track but needs an area 30% wider than the entrance when it is opened.

Guided sliding electric gate - ideal if you are short of space, but you will have a slightly raised guide track across your driveway.

Practicalities and Safety concerns

Could I get stuck in or out of my own electric gate?

We fit all our operators with a manual release, which allows you to override the electric gate if necessary if you have a power cut.  Or we can set the system to allow manual access immediately if you have a power cuts

At what range could I open my gates with the remotes?

Generally, a range of 10-20m can be expected

Will the gates close on anyone?

We always install the most relevant safety features for your installation.  There are many different types of safety equipment on the marker and we will advise you on which is the most appropriate for your system.

Are Electric Gates Safe?

We always install the relevant safety features for your installation.
As long as they are maintained adequately and repaired when necessarily by qualified professionals, Electric gates are perfectly safe.

For more information, visit our Gate Safety page

What about my cats or dogs?

Electric gates will not harm your pets.  Just like a lift or an underground tube, if an object is obstructing the route of the gate whilst it is closing, the gates will simply reopen.

What about the postman/ other visitors?

We can set up timing on electric gates to allow free access during certain hours.  We can install audio or video entry systems to give you the control.  You can also have a timed trade button on your electric gate if you wish.  Another consideration could be a post box, installed into the gate, railings or piers.  Post boxes can be front or rear opening and are designed to make sure that your post does not get wet inside the box and will be ready for you to collect at your convenience.

If you have a coded system, guests can be given the code so they can enter your home.   This could be changed on the given day, so that, this code will only be valid for the specified day and not after or before.

Electric gates can also be programmed to remain open during certain periods of the day, meaning any deliverymen can easily enter your driveway.

Can the weather interfere with my gates?

Electric gates are not usually influenced by normal weather conditions.  Flooding or snow can mean that your gates will need to repair.  If this happens, please call us to arrange a competitively priced call-out.
